About
Word Smiths was founded in the early 1990s when trainer Jane Smith began to offer services as a writer of training and learning materials. At that time all clients were in the public sector. Partner Nick Smith joined the company a few years later, adding his skills as an editor, proof reader and IT expert. He developed his skills in page design and the business soon had a raft of clients wanting writing, editing, proof reading and page design services. Many of our products at that time were text based self-study materials.
Jane went back into the training room in the late 1990s, having qualified with the Buzan organisation as a trainer of MInd Mapping, Speed Reading and Memory skills. She also developed and had much success with courses in business writing.
We now work as a partnership, doing most of the work ourselves but using appropriate associates as and when they are required.
Services
Training services - providing off-the peg workshops in MInd Mapping, speed reading, memory skills, business writing, Writing Effective Minutes and proof reading.
Instructional design - writing bespoke courses, workshops and elearning to clients' specifications.
We also offer top-quality cost-effective typesetting/print layout, print management, copy editing, web design, cd/dvd duplication and audio/podcast recording services.

We sell these books on our website in physical and download editions. They are also sold by Amazon and audible and by a number of other re-sellers.

C&G Vocational Assessor Award and External Verifier Award (TDLB Units D32, D33 and D35)
RSA Diploma in the Teaching of English as a Second Language to Adults
BA (hons) in French with ancillary English (jane)
