The forest of Landes in South West France is the largest sustainable pine forest in Europe planting started in the 1850s and continues today the forest extends to over 1000 hectares. "Pin de Landes" is renowned for its stability as it is slow growing and very dense because of this .it is used for high quality box making where warping is not acceptable as in fine wine boxes and crates. Secondary growth and sub standard wood goes to the papermaking industry.
