The Tin Hat Centre in Selston was formally established as a charity in 1999 and opened its purpose-built community centre in 2002, funded through a combination funding resources. From its early years it developed into a key local community hub, offering education, social activities, health and wellbeing sessions, and events that reflected Selston's strong mining heritage. During the 2010s the centre expanded its role, hosting a wide range of community classes and, in 2017, welcoming the Selston Community Partnership Library into the building.
