Business Description

Selby Osteopaths is one of the area's leading complementary health care clinics and is run by James Harvey, who also runs a successful practice, Bannerdale Osteopaths, with Steven Ojari in Sheffield. The practice has been offering Osteopathic health care to Selby and the surrounding area for over 20 years. During this time the clinic has expanded to such an extent that our current premises became too small to accommodate the demand for Osteopathy in the area. Due to this we had to relocate in December 2012 to a larger building on Gowthorpe.

The move to our new bright and spacious premises provided extra treatment space and facilities to offer back rehabilitation classes and Modern Pilates Courses in the Studio. The 4 Osteopaths currently working at the clinic were joined by a team of local health care practitioners allowing the clinic to provide additional therapies including Acupuncture, Homeopathy, Sports Massage and Hypnotherapy creating a large multidisciplinary practice.

The advantages of creating a large multidisciplinary clinic is so practitioners can find the most appropriate solution to patients problems via the disciplines on offer at the clinic or if needed through the trusted network of clinicians we work with in the surrounding area, this includes local GP’s, Orthopaedic consultants and other like minded complementary health care practitioners.

Business Services
Osteopathy
Osteopathy is a practical form of healthcare that treats the whole body. It is a hands-on treatment that provides relief for physical conditions and pain relating to the body’s structural system.

Cranial Osteopathy
Cranial osteopathy is a refined and subtle type of osteopathic treatment that encourages the release of stresses and tensions throughout the body, including the head.

Paediatric Osteopathy
A newborn baby is soft and flexible and this includes the bones too – Many are in fact still cartilage like your nose or ear. This does help the baby absorb the forces placed upon it during pregnancy and birth, but distortions can remain afterwards and this is where an Osteopath can help.

Homeopathy
Homeopathy is a system of medicine that helps the body heal itself. A homeopathic consultation focuses on the whole person and enables the homeopathic medicines (known as remedies) to be selected on the basis of all aspects of the patient and his or her symptoms.

Hypnotherapy
Hypnotherapy means the use of hypnosis for the treatment and relief of a variety of somatic and psychological symptoms. It can bring relief to existing conditions or to change areas where there are issues. With hypnotherapy it is possible to work with and transform the thoughts that lead to self limiting beliefs – mainly this is achieved through using complete mental and physical relaxation and visualization techniques. It is vital to have the cooperation of the patient.
Hypnotherapy is completely natural and safe and there are no harmful side effects. When administered by a professionally trained and skilled Clinical Hypnosis Practitioner the benefits are long lasting and often permanent. It is often successful when other, more conventional methods of treatment have failed.

Modern Pilates Group classes at Selby Osteopaths
These are for anyone who would like to learn the Modern Pilates method within a small group of 5/6. Classes are more intimate than a normal public session (which usually consist of 12 people or more) so more individual attention will be provided to each person as a result.
Modern Pilates takes the best of Joseph Pilate’s techniques and combines them with recent research from physiotherapy, other holistic forms of exercise and contemporary knowledge about fitness, exercise and core stability.
In class, the focus is on good posture, increased flexibility and developing balance throughout the body. The aim is to build strong, stable muscles that are lean, flexible and correctly aligned. Through this the client learns how to move in the correct manner when managing everyday tasks. The emphasis is on relaxation and mental focus.

SPORTS MASSAGE
Sports massage addresses the particular needs of an individual, aiding the body in returning to levels of functional, occupational and sports-specific fitness regardless of age and ability. Using deep, manipulating massage techniques, sports massage promotes relaxation, stimulates circulation and produces therapeutic benefits for injured and tired muscles. Sports massage is beneficial for athletes and non-athletes alike.

Swedish Massage
Swedish massage benefits the whole body by gently soothing muscles, improving circulation and working out muscle tension.
Regular Swedish massage can help improve sleep by increasing overall relaxation. Massage stimulates the circulation increasing blood flow which provides the muscles with oxygen and nutrients. Pain is lessened and the nervous system is calmed as endorphins are released promoting a deep sense of calm and well-being.

Yorkshire Frozen Shoulder Clinics
Frozen shoulder or adhesive capsulitis is a debilitating condition which can come on for little or no reason. The shoulder joint stiffens and becomes extremely painful. It affects between 2 and 5 % of the population. It tends to affect people mostly between the ages of 40 and 60. About 12% of people will have it in both shoulders. It is more likely to occur if you are diabetic and can sometimes occur after surgical treatment for breast cancer.

I have been working as an holistic therapist since 2005. Using homeopathy I have successfully treated a wide range of ailments including depression, menopausal symptoms, PMS, flu, insomnia and asthma. I have treated men, women (including pregnant women) and children of all ages.
I have found massage treatment beneficial for many physical ailments as well as leaving the client relaxed and with a sense of well-being. Frozen shoulder, daily aches and pains, sport induced injuries and ailments respond well to massage treatment.

I have worked with tri-athletes,disabled athletes, runners, cyclists, dancers, swimmers, walkers, people with desk jobs and people with active jobs.
I am consistently pleased with the success of holistic therapies and am always looking for new ways to improve my client's health, fitness and peace of mind.
I have a keen interest in sport, anatomy and alternative therapies. I was a dancer for 20+ years and have also been involved in martial arts and swimming. Working through my own injuries provided an excellent training ground for the work I do today.
