Business Description

NORTH WEST THEATRE ARTS COMPANY (NWTAC) was formed in 2009 to encourage young people in the performing arts. The Youth Theatre is now a Youth Theatre School (YTS), training young people in the performing arts, be that as a career, drama school, and hobby or in preparation for academic drama courses. In the first season NWTAC delivered a full and varied programme of productions; it became apparent that in addition to the Youth Theatre operations there was a need for a company which would cater for other areas in the performing arts.

NWTAC formed an adult theatre company, for those actors in the community who wished to find an alternative to amateur theatre. Adult company members have the opportunity to work in dedicated productions but also with the YTS in joint productions. A further diversification came in the establishment of a professional Theatre in Education (TIE) Company, to deliver productions to schools and colleges. NWTAC continues to developed its TIE repertoire.

Since NWTAC was formed, the company has staged a considerable number of productions, gaining a reputation for a unique style and analytical approach to shows which have become staid in presentation or avoided by other companies and amateur theatre.

NWTAC remains committed to serve north Manchester in the production and performance of professional and high quality work. In February 2014 NWTAC took over the management of The Bath House Theatre in partnership with The Manchester College. NWTAC are working hard to establish a professional standard performance space in north Manchester; an area which is woefully under invested.

Business Services
Youth Theatre School
The Youth Theatre School was formed to enable young people to receive professional training for the performance arts, as a basis to entry into the industry, further development at drama school, university, school, college or as a hobby. Classes are held each Sunday morning between and 10.00 am and 1.00 pm. Members of the youth theatre are encouraged to audition for roles in in-house productions, which acts as further development in their live performance skills. Rehearsals are each Sunday 2.00 pm – 8.00 pm and Tuesday and Thursday 6.00 pm – 9.00 pm. Rehearsal calls are specific to the characters required and it is unlikely that company members will be required to attend all rehearsals.
The structure of the Youth Theatre School follows the academic year, classes run from September to July with breaks for Christmas and Easter. Each term is split between the disciplines of acting, singing and dance.

It has always been NWTAC’s intention that the Youth Theatre School should be inclusive, rather than exclusive. To achieve this, NWTAC work hard to maintain the fees at a very low level. We also make payment plans available to spread the cost.

Theatre Company

NWTAC’s Theatre Company was set up to cater for people who choose to perform on stage but are looking for an alternative to amateur theatre. The Company is organised and run by the same artistic and technical team who produce the North West Youth Theatre’s shows, and works as a professional company. Members of the Theatre Company have the opportunity to perform in dedicated productions and also in joint productions with the Youth Theatre School.

Theatre In Education

At NWTAC we believe that young people should be exposed to the theatre experience at an early age; this will hopefully develop into a life-long love of live performance. To enhance the experience we tour our productions with scenery, costumes and props to bring the stories alive, within the constraints of a touring production. All our touring productions only employ professional actors and technicians and are accompanied by a ‘teacher’s information pack’.

Theatrical Hire
Since inception, we have assembled considerable stocks of equipment to meet the demands of most productions. We can now make these stocks available for hire and can supply:

Properties
Furniture
Scenery
Backcloths
Drapes
Sound Equipment
Theatre Lighting Equipment
Wardrobe

NWTAC also offer a bespoke scenery construction and props making service.
