About
Corwen Electricity Co-operative is a community energy scheme to build a hydro turbine in Corwen, funded by a community share offer. The project was initiated by the local rural development agency Cadwyn Clwyd who have helped to set up a new community energy cooperative to develop and run the scheme, with advice been provided by Sharenergy.
The scheme is to build a 55kW hydro generator (Pelton wheel) on the Nant Cawrddu which flows into the south side of Corwen. The scheme will take advantage of flood alleviation civil work carried out by the council last year. The turbine will generate sufficient energy to feed about 38 typical households and save about 55 tonnes of CO2 per year.
