Solar Thermal Power is a completely renewable energy source that is now able to provide 24/7 electric power on demand. Until recently solar thermal power systems have been limited by their ability to store the heat and to generate electricity efficiently after the sun goes down. Regenesys has developed a heliostat tower system with a central receiver that uses high temperature hot air as the heat transfer fluid and hot rocks as the thermal storage medium. For the first time electricity can be generated on demand with enough backup power to get through periods of inclement weather. The use of hot air and hot rocks enables power to be generated by a gas turbine, the most efficient of all the thermodynamic power generation systems. This state of the art solar thermal power system will result in significant improvements in efficiency and reductions in cost. The system can provide base load and peaking power with no fossil fuel backup required.
