There are over six million carers in the UK looking after a family member, friend or neighbour who needs help due to illness, frailty or disabilty. In 1997 the Whitgift Foundation established the Carers' Information Service to support the carers of Croydon, of which there are an estimated 30,000, by providing advice, information, advocacy, training and grants, as well as a series of free publications and special events throughout the year.
